Reminder for business owners: CRA mail is defaulting to online only

We’d like to inform you of upcoming changes from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) that will affect how business correspondence is delivered.

Starting next week, the CRA will begin transitioning all business-related mail to online delivery by default through the My Business Account portal. This change will occur in two phases:

  • May 12, 2025: Applies to new business number and CRA program account registrations.
  • June 16, 2025: Applies to existing businesses.

What This Means for You

Going forward, most CRA correspondence for businesses will be sent digitally. This change affects:

  • Businesses newly registered with a business number or CRA program account.
  • Existing businesses already using My Business Account.
  • Businesses whose representatives access CRA services via Represent a Client.

Benefits of Online Mail

  • Faster: Receive CRA correspondence more quickly.
  • Convenient: Access mail anytime, from any device.
  • Secure: Enhanced protection of your business information.
  • Eco-Friendly: Reduces paper use and supports sustainability.

Important Reminders

  • Check Your Account Regularly: CRA will not mail paper copies unless requested.
  • Keep Your Email Address Updated: Notifications will be sent when new mail is available
  • Exceptions:
    • Charities and non-resident businesses will continue receiving paper mail unless they opt in to online delivery.
    • Paper mail is still available by request, using Form RC681 or through your CRA account settings.
      • For Form RC681, click here.

Please note that Form RC681 has to be filled out and sent by the business owner. At this time, CRA will not process forms sent in by tax representatives.

What You Should Do Now

  • Ensure your business is registered for a CRA My Business Account.
  • Verify and update your email address within the CRA portal.
  • Log in regularly to access and respond to important CRA correspondence.
